I would recommend this car (especially over the french alternatives), the insurance is cheap (despite the higher than normal insurance group) however if insurance isn't so much of an issue, i would recommend buying something with a larger engine. I have had no reliability issues but i would say that the gearbox is clunky and bad (could be mine) however it is tolerable, and my car was in a good condition. The Colt suffers from horrific under-steer which is dangerous. I believe the fuel economy is false, i reckon i am getting roughly 35mpg, as you have to push the engine so hard to get anywhere quick, at the same time this severe lack of performance means its safe for a first car and would recommend for that reason.
The 1.1L loves town driving, but motorways feels like torture, the engine sits at 4000 rpm at 70mph which feels like i am slowly killing it, and after a particularly long stint on the A34 the chain started to make noises (not looking forward to that bill).
