The Venator-class Star Destroyer was originally designed for massive hanger space–intended as a ship-to-ship combat cruiser, early models of the Venators were equipped with hyperspace transport rings for its accompanying fighters, they also had space for Republic Frigates to dock, and even would use its hangar bays to combat drop personnel onto the battlefield while supporting them with its massive firepower. Sometimes called the Republic Attack Cruiser or Jedi Cruiser, these wedge-shaped ships are sure to look familiar, for in their sleek, almost daggerlike design the origins of the Imperial II-class Star Destroyers can be seen, and it’s little wonder, considering these were designed by renowned shipyard, Kuat Drive Yards. The Venator-class ship was the original Star Destroyer.
Without these powerful Star Destroyers on their side, the Galactic Republic might have lost the Clone Wars–but the Galactic Empire might never have had one of its greatest weapons.
